I have always wondered if there was a possibility that there could be a show on network television that didn't portray females in the classical stereotypical roles that we all know. Every show that we see on TV has a women playing the housewife, the ditsy coworker or if she is driven and strong willed she is seen as a bitch. As the public watches these shows they are unconsciously being force fed these stereotypes as the norm. Mimi White argues this along with other Hegemonic ideas in her piece "Ideological Analysis and Television."
For many people the deconstruction and underlying understanding of television shows and commercials do not come into mind when watching TV. The zoning out process that many do when watching TV allows more easily for advertisements to pull you in. Although I have to say it is very relaxing to zone out and flip through the hundreds of typecast channels.
